What Whitening Products Do You Use and How Do They Work?

At Al Berger, DDS, we used KöR whitening system for both in-office and take-home use. KöR uses a set of bleaching trays that are made to fit your teeth without leaking any bleaching solution out. Your whitening trays are custom made to fit every inch of your mouth exactly. With the bleaching trays, our dentist will give you the trays with the bleaching solution to take home and use in your own time. We recommend that you use the whitening treatment every day. You can either sleep in the trays or use them for the recommended time that our dentist gives you. Once your two weeks is up, you will come into our office for your final treatment and so that we can ensure you achieved the whitening results you wanted!

How Long Does the Whitening Treatment Take?

The whitening treatment will take just over 2 weeks to fully complete. If you’re looking for faster results, let our dentist know and we can tell you about any treatments that will help you achieve results faster.

How Many Shades Whiter Can My Teeth Get?

With the KöR whitening solution, you can expect your teeth to get up to 8 shades lighter. The whitening treatment will remove years of stains from aging and your food and drink choices. It can also help patients who are smokers or take certain medications that affect the color of their teeth. Teeth whitening is a great option for any patient who has a dull or yellowing smile.

How Long Will My Whitening Treatment Last?

With our professional tooth whitening treatment, you can expect your results to last up to 6 months to a year as long as you’re taking proper care of your teeth. If you regularly eat or drink food staining foods and drinks, your whitening treatment won’t last as long. If you manage to avoid food and drinks that stain your teeth or brush your teeth immediately following, your tooth whitening treatment can last you even longer. The length that your treatment lasts depends solely on your eating and drinking habits as well as your oral hygiene.

Is Teeth Whitening Safe?

When it comes to teeth whitening, the kind you receive from your dentist is the safest one for your mouth. KöR whitening is FDA approved, and since your dentist is monitoring your entire treatment, he can ensure that your smile is whitening safely. No damage will occur to your teeth with our professional teeth whitening.

Does Teeth Whitening Hurt?

For some patients, teeth whitening can cause tooth sensitivity. However, this is mostly due to the whitening solution getting on the gums. With KöR whitening and the custom-made bleaching trays, no whitening solution will find its way onto your gums. This means that you should not experience any tooth sensitivity from the tooth whitening treatment. If you do experience any tooth sensitivity, it will subside within a matter of days. Please let our dentist know if the sensitivity becomes overwhelming, we will take a look at your teeth to make sure everything is okay. A tooth sensitivity toothpaste can be beneficial to use during whitening treatment if you are prone to tooth sensitivity.

Will My Fillings, Crowns, and Other Restorations Be Whitened?

If you have multiple fillings, crowns, veneers or other restorations in your mouth, you should be aware that they will not whiten with our whitening solution. Those restorations are not porous materials, therefore, the whitening solution will not be able to seep inside them. The color of your restorations cannot be changed without replacement. We recommend patients choose the color they want their teeth to be when choosing their restoration color. That way, they have to keep their teeth white in order for their teeth to match everywhere. If your restorations are really the wrong color for you, let our dentist know and we can discuss replacing them for you so your smile can be as white and beautiful as you want.

Why Should I Skip Over the Counter Whitening Products?

You might be wondering why you should skip over the counter whitening products when they cost a fraction of what professional whitening costs. Over the counter whitening products are not safe for your teeth and do not deliver as good of results. With over the counter whitening products, you might end up with results that you aren’t happy with. This can mean uneven whitening, streaks of white on your teeth, or even teeth that did not whiten at all. If you use them incorrectly, you might end up with sensitive teeth or even harming your enamel. For subpar whitening results, over the counter whitening products are not worth the high risk. You might end up throwing your money away or ending up with damaged teeth. Avoid this and just visit our dentist in Oakdale instead.
