Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

Do you have a smile that isn’t entirely pleasing? Perhaps your teeth are stained, gapped or chipped, and you hesitate to smile because you find it embarrassing. That’s unfortunate. Everyone should be able to smile, and even laugh out loud without fear of embarrassment. If your smile is less than outstanding, there are a number of options that you can consider in order to restore it. One of the best dental options is porcelain veneers.

Porcelain dental veneers are thin shells that are made of dental ceramic. They’re installed on the front of your teeth, and they can hide a wide range of cosmetic issues. Currently, they’re one of the best options for cosmetic dental makeovers.

Porcelain veneers have a number of benefits. They’re incredibly versatile, and they can correct a huge range of dental problems, including cracked, discolored or chipped teeth, teeth that are crooked or uneven and gaps between the teeth. Most of the time, all you really need to correct virtually any cosmetic dental problem is porcelain veneers. They look totally natural, and you might even find that friends and acquaintances are looking at you, and saying, “Something’s different about you, but I can’t quite put my finger on it.”

Installing porcelain veneers is a very simple process. Essentially, you’ll sit in the chair while the dentist scrapes a bit of your tooth enamel away in order to roughen up the teeth so that the veneers will bond correctly.  With some types of veneers, that won’t even be necessary – you may be able to have your veneers installed in a single visit, with no scraping needed. Of course the type of veneers that are best can vary from patient to patient, so that’s why we have a consultation before determining the veneers that are right for you.

Once your veneers are in place, you don’t have to worry about any special sort of care. Just look after them the same way you would your natural teeth – brush and floss the way you ordinarily do, come in for regular cleanings, and see me for checkups. Your veneers won’t stain, and they won’t decay, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t have to look after them. If you neglect your basic oral care, the bond between the veneers and your teeth can become compromised.
